The Scotsman’s 200 Voices: Reflections on challenging ourselves to be more ambitious

Following a recent breakfast event focusing on Brexit and IndyRef2, Strathblair founder and Associate, Gary Deans, was left reflecting on the importance of challenging ourselves to be more ambitious to encourage growth in the Scottish economy.

He shared his thoughts with The Scotsman this week, in an opinion piece which considers how we can collectively challenge ourselves to address the current growth problems within the Scottish Economy.

Gary Deans

I’m a highly experienced business adviser who has been working with privately owned businesses for more than 30 years, helping them achieve their personal and corporate objectives. I have a lot of technical expertise in areas from taxation and finance to business planning and family business.

I was a partner with KPMG for 14 years and latterly led their Family Business practice in the UK. But I wanted to achieve more so I decided to create Strathblair because I felt that businesses weren’t getting the advice and support that they really needed to make the most of their potential.

Strathblair has given me the opportunity to be able to grow a business.  I love the fact that we can help people and grow our business alongside that.  We’re dealing with a lot of the issues, challenges and opportunities that business owners face – and that ability to see things from the inside, rather than the outside, is critical to our approach.

My focus is on helping our clients succeed in whatever they do and also ensuring that our people continue to get satisfaction from their work alongside some amazing businesses. That’s what makes Strathblair so special. We love becoming part of your teams and making a real contribution to your future success.
